Loene Carmenâs solo debut, the psychedelic bedroom recorded opus Born Funky Born Free, reflects her love of Funkadelic, Sly and Robbie style dub, old school country music and is in part a homage to legendary 70âs nasty gal Betty Davis.
Loene recorded the album, programmed the beats on her fatherâs ancient drum machine and played most of the instruments.
Also featuring Simon Day (RatCat), James Cruickshank (Cruel Sea), Cathy Green (X) and the mysterious Kristyna.

âThis solo album is witness to Loene's distinctive talent...like nuthinâ youâve ever heard beforeâ (Drum Media)
âSlow, sultry and mesmerising...Lee Perry would be proudâ (Inpress)
