â...stark country-soul and shimmering blues ...a direct line to the heart that showcases her glorious voice â No Depression
Earlier this year, Lo spent a few months living in the backwoods of the deep South, USA, during an un-ending heatwave, where she rescued an abandoned, battered (and very collectable) old Stella parlor guitar buried between toasters and chairs in a Goodwill on the highway for the grand sum of $4.94, gave it a spit, polish and shine, took it on home and put it to work whipping up a short suite of stark acoustic songs inspired by The Peach State.
Recorded with David 'Ferg' Ferguson - the man behind the desk for all the seminal Johnny Cash American recordings - at the East Nashville Butcher Shoppe studio he co-owns with John Prine.
The results speak for themselves, a rudimentary and beguiling collection of observations from an authentic voice, as still and clear as a hot summer's day in the South.
